Defining Core Values

Defining Values to Find Happiness is what I’m craving now, but they are not my core values.  To me, core values are the values that would knock me to the ground if they were not met.  With the exception of two, they have been with me all my life.  They happen to agree with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.  They are

  • Order:  Peace and harmony (newly added)
  • Security:  No harm to myself, family or country (added 9/11/2001 at 8:41 am)
  • Financial independence:  Provide for myself and family with no reliance on others
  • Health:  Taking care of the body, both myself and family
  • Belonging:  To connect, learn from and support/be supported by others

The value of Order is rather interesting. I used to be my best when challenged under pressure.  Nowadays, not so much; my mind has been known to go blank.  I find it difficult to “do/be” when I’m in a deer in headlights situation.
