When decisions are made in alignment with our values, we maximize our feelings of satisfaction and fulfillment. When not in alignment, we feel discontent.
The problem is, decisions can come out of nowhere and I often get the “deer in headlights” feeling when put on the spot. When that happens, I just blurt out the decision based on the least resistant result for others, which is not always in alignment with my beliefs.
One thing I seem to forget when faced with a decision is I have time. To live intentionally, I need to think things through…I need to be…intentional. So using a standard phrase like, I’m not sure. I need some time to think about this…I’ll get back to you is within my control.
I also needed a tool to help guide me through my decision making, at least until I got more used to making decisions based on my beliefs and values. Using Google Docs, I typed my generic phrase that will buy me time along with my core values, roles, happiness values and no regrets to reference to help me make a decision that is in line with my values, not what others want.
Why Google Docs? No matter where I go, I’ll have access to it with my phone.
