Minutes turn into hours; hours into days; days into weeks into months into years. And before you know it, you have 1,176 weeks left of life (now 1,167) and wonder what have I done?
Last week’s post (Next Up in My Journey: Self-Esteem) I learned self-accomplishments aids in improving self-esteem, but when I start to look back on what I’ve accomplished, I’m a deer in headlights. Anything worth noting is lost somewhere in my memories and my day-to-day activities seem so menial. I found little to guide me on how to identify my life’s accomplishments. Where to begin?
Intuitively, I began to reflect on each decade of my life. The results of this exercise left me with overall statements or facts about me. Are these life accomplishments?
- I influence others to follow me
- Graduated from high school
- Survived a binge drinker parent
- Married the love of my life
- Advanced in my career without higher education
- Purchased first home and assumed the responsibility of being the main income provider
- Gave birth and absorbed myself in family life while continuing to advance at work
- Purchased a house in an affluent area while being the main financial provider
- Started a kid’s environmental club at the local library
- Caregiver for ailing parents and held up being a mother, wife and valued employee
- Wrote a book
- Earned my SVP title
- Assumed the family lead between sisters and handled mental health issues of one sister
- Both children graduated from college and have successful jobs
In reviewing these accomplishments, I see that I am a strong woman who rises to any challenge and succeeds even outside of her realm. I also see a lot of devotion to family and work and thankful I am slowing down at work to finally focus on me.
This feels good. Really good. I am proud of myself and what I accomplished.
