As I continue down this path of self-discovery, I need to consider the roles I play, their importance and the impact on me. This too can be overwhelming.
In my 2015 book, A Working Mom’s Guide: Taking Control, I have an exercise where I listed the roles I played from mom to first cousin once removed. I then grouped and narrowed the list down to those 4 responsibilities that demand the most of my time or that were most important to me. The Top 4 are:
Family: My relationship with my husband and kids are my top priority. If something goes wrong with them, I am not okay. My sister’s, nieces and friends are also important to me, but do not require the same amount of attention as my immediate family.
Self: It’s important to be mindful of my needs so I can live a fulfilled life.
Work: I need the financial means to take care of myself.
Home: Our house provides shelter and warmth and is also our biggest financial asset.
I feel defining your life roles gives a perspective on who you are and will help in improving how you will feel when your actions align to your roles.

Looks like a good exercise to help prioritize what activities deserve your attention. Nice!
